In April we received five rose bushes as a gift. Papa planted them along the south side of the house and within two weeks every one of the original blossoms had fallen. The bushes were bare, we were concerned.Mama trimmed the bushes back as much as she could and in late-May the sight of new buds on each of them brought new hope. Today the first true bloom arrived to reward our resuscitative efforts. We will persevere until we have a proper thorny hedge.
